No data collected

Privacy Policy

FocusShield is built on a simple principle: your data belongs to you. We do not collect it, store it remotely, or share it. Ever.

Effective: June 24, 2025 Last updated: June 24, 2025 Applies to: FocusShield Chrome Extension

Overview

FocusShield does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data or browsing information. Zero. Nothing leaves your device.

FocusShield is a Chrome browser extension designed to help you stay focused by blocking distracting elements on social media platforms and other websites you choose to restrict. This privacy policy explains how the extension handles your information.

This policy applies to the FocusShield browser extension published on the Chrome Web Store. By installing and using FocusShield you agree to the practices described in this document.

Data We Do Not Collect

FocusShield does not collect, access, store, or transmit any of the following:

Your browsing history or the URLs of pages you visit. Your personal identity, name, email address, or any account information. Your IP address or geographic location. Your device identifiers or hardware information. Your social media accounts, usernames, or profile data. Any content you type, post, or interact with on websites. Cookies from websites you visit. Any analytics or telemetry about how you use the extension. Any crash reports or error logs sent to external servers.

There are no analytics libraries, tracking pixels, fingerprinting scripts, or third party data collection tools of any kind included in FocusShield.

Local Storage Only

FocusShield stores your preferences and focus session data locally on your device using the Chrome Storage API. This data never leaves your browser and is never sent to any server.

The data stored locally includes your blocking preferences for each supported platform, the list of custom websites you have chosen to block, your focus session timer data per domain, and the master on or off state of focus mode.

This data is stored solely to make the extension work correctly across browser restarts. It is readable only by the FocusShield extension itself and by you through your browser settings. You can clear it at any time by removing the extension or clearing extension storage in your browser.

Permissions Explained

FocusShield requests the following browser permissions. Here is exactly why each one is needed:

  • storage Saves your blocking preferences and focus session timer data locally on your device. No data is sent anywhere.
  • tabs Detects which website you are currently visiting so the popup can show relevant controls and apply the correct blocking rules.
  • activeTab Reads the URL of the tab you are currently viewing. This happens locally in your browser and is not logged or transmitted.
  • favicon Displays the favicon of the current website inside the popup so you can visually identify the site. No favicon data is stored or transmitted.
  • host permissions Allows FocusShield to inject its content script into any page you have configured to block or focus, including custom sites you add yourself. The extension only activates on sites you configure.

Third Party Services

FocusShield does not integrate with any third party analytics services, advertising networks, crash reporting tools, or data brokers.

The extension loads the Inter typeface from Google Fonts via a standard HTML link tag on the blocked page and the popup. This is a standard web font request made by your browser to Google's servers. Google's own privacy policy governs that request. FocusShield does not pass any identifying information to Google Fonts beyond what your browser normally sends with any font request.

No other external requests are made by FocusShield under any circumstances.

Children's Privacy

FocusShield does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because the extension collects no personal data whatsoever, it inherently complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent regulations in other jurisdictions.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever update this privacy policy, the new version will be published on this page with an updated effective date. We will also update the Chrome Web Store listing to reflect any material changes.

Because FocusShield does not collect your contact information, we cannot notify you directly of changes. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the extension after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

We commit to never introducing data collection practices without clearly updating this policy and providing reasonable notice through the Chrome Web Store listing and extension update notes.
